MORE THAN MEMORIES
Why do we care? We care because we love.
Why do we love? Because we remember.
We remember the promise of youth,
the shadows of a long life,
the satisfaction of service.
We remember the flush of first love,
the proud greetings of “Mr. and Mrs.” and later,
the children by our side.
We remember commitments made and commitments endured,
the sacrifices so many,
the pleasures so few.
I remember waking up with you next to me,
all the days we worked together,
and the days that just went by.
I remember our children growing,
and later, going to their own life
but we still had ours.
And then, you were gone!
Where did you go?
I miss you so.
Looking back, it went so fast.
Looking ahead, what's left?
We still have each other because I remember.
Someone Else remembers, and loves.
Someone who made us,
and will remake us.
Then our memories will never catch all the joy
that's unfolding unstoppable.
Then we will have more than memories.
